Google just upgraded their search algorithms.  We have been expecting this for a few months.  Here it is.

Five Critical Elements of all Great Websites

  • It had better look good:

    • images that are unique and compelling
    • logo in proportion to screen
    • font common to market sector, 3 font only
    • liberal use of white space
    • balanced use of color
  •  

  • Content:

    • Must be clear and to the point
    • Has to include master keywords related to service and product
    • Never include a typo
    • Should include relevant and latest trends
    • Always needs to engage the reader
  •  

  • Logical and Hierarchical Navigation:

    • Nothing makes a reader leave the website faster than not knowing where to go next
    • Higher pages must be general in nature
    • Detail is found on deeper pages
    • Never allow your reader to find herself stranded with no way to get back
    • Avoid continuous loops where readers go round and round
  •  

  • Follow the Google Rules:

    • There are over 20 categories of attributes to the website that the viewer cannot see
    • Include the Meta Tags and Descriptions following the clear guidelines
    • Be sure to turn on Google Analytics!
    • Include a correct sitemap
    • Every page and section must have a correct header
    • Image to Text ratio must be properly balanced
  •  

  • Viewable and Mobile:

    • View the website on all six of the major browsers
    • View the website on the standard 4 screen sizes
    • Make sure there is a mobile version of the website
